Brian Liang, who finished with one Band 6 and Band 5s in all his other subjects, said he was "pretty satisfied" with his result.
He hopes to study medicine at the University of NSW next year, which is one of four universities that has invited him to be a student.
Ricky Chen, meanwhile, admitted to some late apprehension.
"I was calm the night before [the results came out], but this morning I was cold and a little nervous," he said. "But I'm good now."

He will go to university next year and thinks he will study medicine, but is still mulling whether it is the right degree for him.
He finished with three Band 6s, a Band 5 and a Band E2.
Abbey Miller, who finished with a Band 6 in design and technology and Band 5s in the rest of her subjects, said she "couldn't have been happier".
She will study graphic design at Newcastle next year.
And her advice for those who face the HSC challenge in 2020?
"When you are feeling overwhelmed, just take everything five minutes at a time," she said. "Focus on the task at hand."
Among the highlights for Scots All Saints College's 75 students in the class of 2019 were Emma Russell's 50 out of 50 for music extension; the five students (Ricky Chen, Timothy Powell, Emma Russell, Madison Tasker and Brooke Webb) who received nominations for Encore, which is the presentation of top HSC music performances; the three students (William McDonald, Abbey Miller and Timothy Powell) who were nominated for the DesignTech exhibition for design and technology major works; and Isabella Siegert's visual arts major work being selected for the ArtExpress exhibition.
Head of academic excellence Greg Jones said about a third of the students finished with an ATAR above 80, "which will open lot of doors for them university-wise".
"But one of the key achievements is that they have managed to keep the HSC and the ATAR in perspective," he said. "It is just one number in a lifetime.
"Whilst it is good to get results, and a lot of these kids have got good results, they are also a good bunch of young people.
"We are quite happy now to send them out into the big, wide world to make a positive contribution."
