Bushrangers have locked in their existing 2019 coaching combination of Matt Archer and Tim Hunter to lead the club's first grade team.
They'll be formulating plans and workouts for the coming months of pre-season training but Bushrangers president Alex Sparks said it's great to see some players taking the chance to warm the legs up earlier than usual.
"We got delayed a bit due to the bushfire smoke but over the last few days we got up to the top oval and have a kick around. It's good for people to get together again and shake a few cobwebs off," he said.
"That's all we wanted from those sessions. We'll kick things off in earnest early in the new year and hopefully we'll get a few people down there stuck into a good pre-season.
"Our preference was to not start anything serious before Christmas. We had such a successful season in 2019 we wanted to let everyone unwind and think about things other than football.
"From what we wanted out of it, it went really well."
The club held several pre-Christmas kicks at George Park but will begin to step the intensity up over the coming weeks.
The returning coaching duo successfully guided the Bushrangers Rebels to a grand final victory in 2019 over the Orange Tigers.
The thoughts behind Archer and Hunters selection: Why change a winning thing?
"We've kept a winning formula with Tim and Matt. With the premiership they've earned the right to go around again," Sparks said.
"They were happy to put their hands up to help out again. They've got momentum from the past competition and with the change to a two-tier system it gives us that bit of foundation for our players to learn their expectations before the season starts.
"We'll be fielding a first and reserve grade team at this point. Obviously things can change between now and the start of the season but we've got a bit of flexibility in our coaching structures to allow for any changes which come up."
