Not only did he find the time to perform two classic album shows at The Victoria Bathurst [Ray Charles and The Doors], but he also headed production on a collaborative Christmas album, Dreaming of a Green Christmas, featuring 34 musicians from across the the Central West.
But for 2020, Schubert is set to put his energy into the upcoming third record from his main project, The Safety of Life at Sea.
"There's more of a variety in the new songs and while it will have that blues/soul feel present on Foxy's Farm [the group's previous record], we're pushing the sound even further in the studio," he said.
"Foxy's Farm was upbeat and groove-driven but with this new record, some quieter, more introspective songs will be in the mix."
The new record, tentatively titled Fish River, is expected to be released in the first half of 2020.
"There's around 16 songs in contention for the record, and we're hoping to plan a bit of a tour to support it," Schubert said.
Schubert said the presence of a dedicated studio space [The Boatshed] at his O'Connell home has helped enhance the production process.
"The Christmas album was a joy to put together, and it was a real highlight to receive so much positive feedback from a production standpoint," he said.
"It brought a host of local musicians together for a unified project and it was pleasing to see a lot of the songs receive radio play, as that was a key motivator behind the record."
Schubert launched an online crowd-funding campaign for Dreaming of a Green Christmas in October to raise $5800 [the total cost of producing the album] for Lifeline Central West in order to help support the less fortunate during Christmas.
By the end of the month, the campaign had raised $6037.
'Christmas Is Here,' The Safety of Life at Sea's contribution to Dreaming of a Green Christmas, held the number one spot on the Amrap Regional Chart for two weeks in December.
"That song is a teaser for what listeners can expect on the new album," Schubert said of 'Christmas is Here.'
Schubert's first gig for 2020 will be the Cake and Cordial Sessions at The Victoria Bathurst on January 18, alongside Genni Kane, Megan Cooper and Smith & Jones.
