Police are expecting traffic volumes coming into, and around the city to increase in the days before the event, being held in Bathurst on January 22.

Sergeant Ryan Baird, from Bathurst Highway Patrol, said Bathurst's Highway Patrol numbers would be boosted by officers from Cowra, Parkes and Orange units.

He said highway patrol will be looking at traffic management in the lead up and after the event, with emphasis on safe pedestrian movement through the city on the night.

With the concert being held on a Wednesday night, he reminded those travelling back home the following morning to ensure they are both well rested and not affected by any residual alcohol in their systems from the night before.

He urged people to be responsible, and if they are at risk of being over the limit, not to get behind the wheel.

"The message is don't drink and drive, be 100 per cent self aware, know your limits," he said.

With a crowd of 20,000 expected to pack into Carrington Park for the concert, ticket holders also are being reminded to plan their night ahead of schedule.

From 6am next Wednesday, roads surrounding the Carrington Park precinct will begin to close, with all roads expected to be closed by 4pm once gates open to the event.

Road closures will be in place for Durham, Bentinck, Howick and Seymour streets.

There will be four special bus services between 3pm and midnight servicing Kelso, Eglinton, Windradyne and Mount Panorama at the cost of a gold coin.
