FORGET Nic Maddison's freakish catch off his own bowling in the Big Bash League, there was an effort arguably even more spectacular from Bathurst seamer Matt Fearnley on Sunday.

Fearnley plucked a brilliant reflex catch off his own bowling to dismiss Midwest skipper Will Lindsay in Bathurst's Western Zone Premier League match at Victoria Park.
It saw the dangerous opener, who had hit six boundaries, on his way for 37. Bathurst went on to dismiss Midwest for 119, a total it ran down in 24.1 overs with four wickets in hand.
"The moment that turned the match was Matty Fearnz with a cracker of a caught and bowled. He caught out their captain Will Lindsay and that really turned the match as he could have batted the whole way through," Bathurst skipper Adam Ryan said.
"He hadn't given a chance before then. He smashed one at Fearnz and we had to apologise because we didn't expect Fearnz to catch those ones.
"He just plucked it, it just went straight into his hands and he didn't look like dropping it."
Fearnley finished with 2-24 off his 10 overs, but it was a good all-round performance from the Bathurst attack. Harrison Craig (3-24 off 10 overs) and Joey Coughlan (2-10 off 4.3) each played their role, while Ben Parsons (3-14 off nine) tied down the hosts.

"Fearnz bowled really well and Parso, he really set the tone. A couple of the runs off him were balls that caught the edges, inside edges, that went for a couple of runs, he just bowled exceptional," Ryan said.
"The big thing was that we took regular wickets and that prevented any large totals being posted, no partnerships got going, so that was really good for our boys."
Bathurst's chase did not get off to the sort of start Ryan had hoped for, the visitors finding themselves at 4-55 after 10 overs.
But Mark Day (43) and Ryan (39 not out) settled the innings with a more patient approach to help Bathurst ultimately cruise to a four-wicket win.
"We just didn't bat with purpose or patience in the early part of our innings, it was a bit disappointing because it was a pretty good match, our bowling and fielding efforts were fantastic and we let ourselves down a little bit with the bat," Ryan admitted.
"But while we had a smaller total, I used that as an opportunity to promote a couple of the guys who had been batting down the order or hadn't been in the side.
"It was a bit disappointing we had to use so many batsmen to get the result, but I'm really happy with the way that Mark Day batted, I thought he did a tremendous job. He came in and really steadied the ship, took ownership and took his opportunities.
"I did a bit of anchor work there. We put in a bit of hard work early, then we just waited for the bad balls because we had so many overs to play with, it made batting less under pressure."
The win extended Bathurst's unbeaten run in the 2019-20 Western Zone competition to four games and assures it a place in the decider regardless of results in the final round.
