The CSU Mungoes will be looking for back-to-back Mid West Rugby League premierships for the first time in club history this season and will do so with the help of former player Rhys Power, who will be returning to co-coach the team.
Power, along with Callum Flanagan and Josh Byron, will be guiding the Mungoes as they look to build on what was an impressive 2019 campaign.
With star halfback Billy Dickinson at the helm, the Mungoes were minor premiers, the first to qualify for the grand final, then defeated the Orange Barbarians 30-0 in the decider at Diggings Oval.
"We had an unreal end to the season," Mungoes president Jacob Watkin said.
"I think we have a lot more expectation and pressure heading into this season.
"Especially after winning the men's and league tag competitions and the introduction of all the new teams and the growth of the competition."
As Watkins indicated, this season will see the addition of four clubs to the premiership, increasing it to an eight-team title fight in the New Era Cup.
It means the Mungoes will face even sterner competition, but Watkin is eager to see what the expanded competition will bring.
"The comp has doubled in size and everyone is really excited to see how that goes," Watkin said.
"We have Kandos and Blackheath coming back into the comp, while Oberon have dropped down from Group 10 and a new Orange side has entered as well."
The Mungoes will have to overcome losing their premiership winning skipper Dickinson. The captain-coach, who was named clubman of the year in 2019, has since graduated and will be heading over to London with a job as a paramedic.
CSU has also lost utility Oscar Thorburn, who had spent four seasons with the Mungoes. However, good numbers have turned up to the first few training sessions.
"The first training run was really good. We had 10 first session and over 20 on our Thursday session, which is really exciting considering uni isn't back yet," Watkin said.
"We just played a fun game of touch and got into some fitness. We are excited to see more people turn up and get keen as uni starts and the season gets closer."
