Of the 17 career victories next to his name, McKenzie notched up nine during the 2018-2019 season.
On Tuesday night at Young, the 23-year-old scored his fourth victory this season, courtesy of the Nathan Hurst-trained Tulhurst Terror.
There's still seven months of the season remaining to build on that tally too.
"The new handicapping system really helped me and this season is starting to improve," McKenzie said.
"I was pretty confident before the race that he [Tulhurst Terror] had the ability to win. It was just a matter of how the race was run."

Beginning from barrier one, the five-year-old gelding began quickly off the arm, before McKenzie let one of the fancied runners - Arama Reactor - go to the lead.
Securing the position behind the leader, McKenzie pulled the gelding out rounding the home bend, scoring by 2.6 metres.
It was also a personal best mile rate for Tulhurst Terror ($7.50), clocking 1:58.3 for the 1,720m event.
"He stuck on really well and we were super happy with him," McKenzie said.
Graduating university last year with a Bachelor of Criminal Justice, McKenzie decided to spend this year focusing more on the horses, hoping to further his career in the racing industry.
"I would like to keep driving winners and I think training would be a great experience," McKenzie said.
