Wednesday night's Carrington Park gig was a triumph for all concerned.
Sir Elton John belied his years in a show lasting almost three hours that thrilled every member of the 20,000-strong crowd (not to mention hundreds more listening from outside the ground).
And the co-ordination and smooth running of the event was a credit to both Bathurst Regional Council and the broader Bathurst community that took any disruptions in good grace and humour.
Bathurst and the Central West reacted with shock when it was announced 12 months ago that Sir Elton had included a show here on his farewell tour after a career spanning half a century.

The region had never before been chosen to host a show of this size and there were (naturally) initial concerns about how it would go.
But those concerns came to nothing as the city again met every challenge thrown its way.
It all added up to an incredible dream that only enhances Bathurst's reputation as the major events capital of regional NSW.
And it's a night that's already left us wondering what could be next.
Now Bathurst has proven beyond doubt it is capable of hosting one of the biggest names in entertainment, surely no act is beyond our reach.
And tour promoter Michael Chugg, who has worked with plenty of international acts of Sir Elton's standing, made it clear he would be open to bringing other international stars to town - if possible.
"Elton loved it, and I'm very proud that we were able to bring something so special out over the mountains," Mr Chugg said.
"... Council were a big help for my people on the ground and I hope the gig has done a lot for Bathurst from an economic and cultural standpoint," he said.
"It has certainly provided some food for thought."
That's not a commitment, but it does mean Bathurst is now in his thoughts.
And if one of the world's top promoters is willing to consider Bathurst a viable venue option, then we have every right to keep dreaming big.
Bathurst is rightly proud to be the motor racing capital of Australia but, time and again, our city is proving it is so much more than that. What a night it was.
