Around half an hour into the set, the Western Advocate broke the news that Sir Elton had launched into proceedings and had greeted Bathurst fans for the first time.
The resulting post on Facebook resulted in numerous positive responses from the community, both during and after the concert.
Louise Francis was especially receptive.
"Carrington Park is probably one of the smaller audiences he's played for in recent years, but boy did he turn it on," Ms Francis said.
"He could have been performing a far bigger venue, earning far more money than he did tonight, but he put on the same show for us as he would have elsewhere."

Ms Francis was also complementary of the event's organisation.
"It was a beautifully executed evening - transport, parking, security, catering - plenty of info had been provided in advance to have people prepared for the day," she said.
"Hats off to the organisers, it appeared seamless."
Lizzy Evans commented on the landmark nature of the event.
"This is history in the making, so glad to be part of it, thank you Elton and your crew," Ms Evans said.
Julie Allen was seated a fair distance away from the action, but had plenty of praise for the concert's organisation.
"I was in the very last row of the seated area, but I still had a great view," Ms Allen said.
"The sound system was amazing, but the quality of those screens was something else entirely."
Mike Curtin commended Bathurst Regional Council for their efforts in securing the landmark event.
"Great job council, you've proved we can hold big events here," Mr Curtin said.
"The crowd control, security, vendors, buses, parking and event management were executed seamlessly, well done to all involved."
"Now go and hunt a few more big shows for the Central West."
