BATHURST CITY MEN'S BOWLING CLUB
By No Name
Just another wonderful week.
Wednesday
Game one: Barry McPherson, Trevor Kellock and Jim Grives played Suzie Simmons, Bob Lindsay and Ken Fulton.
Ken's team started well but Jim's were a little more consistent scoring bigger on the ends they won. Win to Jim 22 to 18.
Game two: Pat Duff and Norm Hayes played John Fulton and Ian Cunningham. Ian and John scored first with Norm and Pat trailing all the way through, never quite able to catch illusive prey, before going down 16 to 15.
Game three: Arch Ledger, Paul Reece and John Archer played Jack Smith, Mick Simmons and Alby Homer.
This was a good game with all but one end being scores of no greater than two. Unfortunately for Alby more of those close ends went to John's team. Win to John 16 to 11.
Game four: John McDonaugh, Frank Farrell and Mick Sewell played John martin, Bob Heffernan and Ray Noonan.
Mick's team although starting slowly moved forward once underway. They scored consistently through the centre section of the game to run out winners 31 to 16.
Saturday
Game one: Paul Reece and Phil Gray played Denis Oxley and Ross James. Winning thirteen ends with many of them multiples the James team ran out winners reasonably comfortably 23 to nine.
Game two: Ron Hollebone, Bruce Rich and Norm Hayes played Arch Ledger, Paul Rodehuis and Dennis Harvey.
The first half of this game was very even to be 12 all on eleven ends. From that time Denis' team moved forward to end up winning 23 to 18.
Game three: John McDonaugh, Ron Cambey and Ian Schofield played Ian Cunningham, Joe Young and Richard Simpson. Richard's team showed the advantage of consistency, winning ends in blocks.
They only led by two at the eleventh end but won a block of four ends that returned 12 shots to put the result beyond doubt. Win to Richard's team 29 to 13.
Game four: John Fulton, Kevin Miller and Geoff Thorne played Dan Carter, Barry McPherson and Alex Birkens.
This game was tied up at seven all on the ninth end only to see Geoff's team run away to end up winners 35 to nine.
Game five: Phil Murray, Trevor Kellock and Hanns Hummelshoj played Anthony Morrissey, Bob Heffernan and Jim Grives.
This was a tight tussle with Jim's team going to a 12 to four lead at end eight only to have Hanns' boys return to 15 all at 15. From there on it was anyone's game until Jim finally got up 19 to 18.
Game six: Luke Dobbie John Archer played Ray Noonan and John Finlay. The Finlay team jumped out of the box with a lead 14 to five on the ninth end with the game squaring up at 14 all at thirteen ends.
From there it was 15 all and 17 all before Finlay finally jumped ahead 22 to 20 to win.
Game seven: Ray Fitzalan, Bob Lindsay and Ken Waddell played Garry Hotham, Ken Fulton and Bryan Bromfield.
Best part of this game was the camaraderie shown throughout. Ken's team played too well and had a comfortable win 28 to 18.
We were also fortunate to host the Zone 4, Zone 5 Junior challenge. Zone 4 covers everywhere from Lithgow to Bourke and Zone 5 covers part of western Sydney.
The city team ran out winners five to three with all participants enjoying a good day of bowls.
