Denyer recorded a 1:06.2759 aboard the #29 Trofeo Motorsport Lamborghini, which was first in the Am-Silver class and 13th fastest time overall in practice two, which is an achievement considering his last GT3 drive at Bathurst was in 2017.
"It's really good to be back. I haven't driven these things for four years so I didn't know whether I would be able to quickly get back in and be as fast as I was. It's nice to be able to do it early on in the weekend and it gives us half a chance of making the podium."
It marks Denyer's debut for Lamborghini and he's settling in nicely to his new car.
"I've never driven it before but it's pretty well sorted. It's a couple of seasons old now so all the bugs are ironed out and it's looking after me," Denyer said.
"Any day you turn the wheel in a GT3 car around here is pronominal because they are faster than a Supercar and it's mind-boggling the speeds they do over the top and it takes a bit to get the brain up to speed."
With finishing itself a challenge, Denyer accepts that it is tough to aim for a specific goal, but would naturally like to take class honours.
"It's hard to know. It's a race of high attrition and is a tough challenge," Denyer said.
"A lot of the Europeans come out and they have got a red hot attitude and take no prisoners on the track so at times it's easy to be involved in someone else's accident. But it would be great to take out first place in the Am/Silver category."
The Trofeo Motorsport crew are one of eight teams fielding four drivers, with Denyer sharing alongside Liam Talbot, Marcel Zalloua and Dean Canto.
Fellow Bathurst driver Brad Schumacher had a productive day out in his #95 Marc II Mustang, using the day to tweak their set up.
Schumacher and the team improved throughout the day, aiming for a podium on Sunday.
"Our goal obviously is to finish the race, but with out a doubt we are aiming for a podium and we think we will have a good enough team to do it," Schumacher said.
"Luffy (Warren Luff) is a second quicker than us and me, Bayley (Taunton) and Geoff (Hall) are running same times and very consistent. We have a pretty positive aura at the moment."
