The Motorsport Short Course runs during most major race events at Mount Panorama, and offers students a vital opportunity to progress into a career as a motorsport mechanic.
TAFE NSW Motorsport Repair Team co-ordinator John Ewing said the students have had a busy weekend of vehicle repairs and configuration.
"Most of the team has done placement with crews in the Aussie Racing Cars and Combined Sedans categories," Mr Ewing said.
"The main aim is for students to complete the course successfully, learn skills working on a bunch of different cars and secure placement within the motor racing industry."
As well as providing experience for automotive students, Mr Ewing said the program helps identify competitors who are looking for assistance.
"We organise placements with a host of motor racing teams, ranging from Supercars to the Toyota 86 Racing Series," he said.
"The location of this course has allowed us to forge close relationships with the likes of Supercars and the Australian Racing Group [ARG], which has opened vital pathways for students."
On completion of the course, the units can be credited towards either a Certificate II or III in Motorsport Technologies.
With the severe heat, Mr Ewing said the garage environment proved quite challenging over the weekend.
"The weather has been tough, but thankfully there has been no injuries or dehydration spells," he said.
