The baby was found submerged in a backyard inground pool in Gilmour Street just after 7.30pm on Saturday.
Chifley Police District duty officer Inspector Gerard Powell said the infant was found in the water by a parent who pulled the baby from the pool and immediately began CPR while other emergency services were called.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
Paramedics continued resuscitating the baby at the scene before he was taken by road ambulance to Bathurst Base Hospital where he received further medical treatment.
The baby was then airlifted to Randwick Children's Hospital by the retrieval helicopter service.
Inspector Powell said the pool had been fenced but how the infant got into the water will be subject to investigation.
He said the child's condition on Sunday was listed as serious but stable.
