It's hard to believe it was just seven days ago that most of us were struggling to cope with the incredible heatwave that had hit the state.
Temperatures in Bathurst hovered around the 40 degrees Celsius mark last weekend, a mark we've seen only a handful of times since records have been taken.
Coming at the end of six days of temperatures above 35 degrees - and in combination with nights where the mercury did not fall below 25 - the sapping conditions left many of us feeling tired and cranky.
What a difference a week can make.
The heavy grey skies we've seen this weekend have had a remarkable effect on both the landscape and our mindset.
After so long in drought, any rain is welcomed with open arms and there is a lot more joy to be had in talking about the wet weather than in complaining about the heat we had last weekend.
In just a couple of days we start to see a green tinge to the countryside, lawns shooting up and some colour in our gardens.
This rain is nowhere near enough to end this city's - and this state's - water worries but it's still a hell of a lot better than stifling heat.
And the good news is, the forecast says there's more to come.
In past years we've bemoaned wet weather at this time of year for robbing of us of our summer.
But after all we've endured in the past few months, we're all more than happy to rejoice in the rain.
