By the end of the contract Wighton will have played 13 NRL seasons with the Green Machine and he'll be 31 by the time he's off-contract again.
It caps a remarkable turnaround for Wighton who just two years ago was close to losing his career due to several assault charges.
But 2019 was a breakout season for him.
A switch to five-eighth from fullback sparked him not only making his NSW State of Origin debut, but also breaking into the Australian side.
Now he's been rewarded with a four-year extension that ties him to the capital until the end of the 2024 season.
Wighton turned down bigger offers from other clubs to stay in Canberra, where he's formed a home with his young family.
He told the Canberra Raiders website he wants to win a premiership with the side he loves.
"I know we have the squad to do it and if we can stay together and continue what we've built we'll be able to achieve our goal," he said.
"I love the club. They've always been there for me and I want to repay them by staying and playing the best footy I can to be successful,"
The 27-year-old from Orange came through the Raiders under-18s and under-20s sides and has played 156 NRL games.
With Wighton locked down, the Raiders will turn their attention to extending co-captain Jarrod Croker and young gun Nick Cotric before the start of the season, along with their other off-contract players.
