Ms Nunan has seen people in her life struggle and is also studying mental health, so is aware that it's an area in need of attention.
"Mental health, especially in the Bathurst community, is not really talked about as much as it should be, especially among young people," she said.
She has set a goal for her Laps for Life campaign, both financially and with the distance she plans to swim.
"Initially, I'd like to raise $400 and that is is on my fundraising page, and ideally I'd like to swim six kilometres," she said.
"I'm setting aside three days a week where I'll go down to the Bathurst aquatic centre and try to do as many laps as I can in a session in March."
Ms Nunan is doing Laps for Life alone, but would love to have a team join her in the fundraising.
