WESTERN needed a big performance in the field if they were to end their NSW CHS Girls Cricket Championships campaign on a high against South Coast on Thursday at Bathurst.

Just like they did a day earlier, Western didn't buckle under pressure with the ball.
Western once again bowled beautifully to stop South Coast 24 runs short of their 118 total at George Park 2, and in the process finished the competition with a positive win-loss record of 4-2.
Western manager Rachel McCann said it's one of the brightest years Western has seen for some time at the tournament.
"We've been in a rebuilding phase for some time ever since we had that really strong team who won it 2012," she said.
"It's a positive sign seeing these girls play well after spending several years with the side and having the opportunity to play at a high level in carnivals like these.
"We said all this week our aim was to learn and improve and that's what we did."
Western were under the pump early with the bat.
Partnerships of any significance were impossible to come by as the top order failed to get themselves out of single digits.
Just like they did a day earlier Western found some middle order spark, this time through Dimity Parton (27 not out) and Maddy Spence (22).
The unbeaten final wicket partnership between Parton and Taylor Hobby (15 not out) added a vital 35 runs to the tally.

The South Coast chase began in positive fashion.
Top three batters Kallie Gum (14), Isabella Greig (13) and Jade Allen (22) helped bring the required run rate down over the opening stages of their innings.
South Coast reached the halfway point of the 40 over chase at 4-66, with the match poised to swing in either direction.
It quickly turned the way of the hosts.
Once the middle order were dismissed the wickets arrived in a rush for Western.
Western's Taylor Hobby was once again the pick of the bowlers with her figures of 3-20 while Amali McNeil (2-8) and Spence (2-9) also made multiple breakthroughs.
