Bathurst officers Sarah Archer and Marita Shoulders have been named in the Country Origin Women's Police Rugby League Representative team to take on their City counterparts in Sydney this April.
With a wealth of experience across rugby league and rugby union between them, the Bathurst pair earned their place in a country team brimming with Australian representative level talent.
Archer and Shoulders won't just be playing for the pride of regional NSW but they'll be playing for a spot in the state team to take on Queensland later this year.
"It's a cool experience to be a part of the first NRL police team that they've put together for the women," Archer said.
"There's some amazing opportunities coming up. If we make the state team we'll head to Brisbane in July, where there's a curtain-raiser against the Queensland," Shoulders added.
"The majority of our country team is from our Australian police rugby team which just came back from Hong Kong, though we don't know much about the city team."
The pair are excited to experience a high level of league in a match helping to grow the women's branch of the sport.
"I've been in the police since 2001 and there's always been a men's competition in Sydney so I used to go down and watch that. To be given the opportunity to play and be alongside the men is great," Shoulders said.
"We'd have exhibition matches with league tag but before now we've never had the chance to play tackle."
"I grew up as a kid watching my brother play tackle and I wasn't allowed to do that," Archer added.
"I just wanted to run out there and be involved. It's great seeing the opportunity to play being opened up to women now."
Their selections in the country police team should come as no surprise.
Orange native Archer has spent more than a decade in Group 10 league tag and has been Cargo's go-to player for the past five seasons.
In that time Archer has racked up representative Woodbridge Cup and Western Rams appearances.
Her success has carried over to the rugby union as well with the 2019 Country Championship-winning Central West representative squad.
Shoulders has limited league tag experience with the Mudgee Dragons but in union circles she has been a key part of Bathurst Bulldogs' recent all-conquering women's side and is also a player of the tournament recipient at the NSW Country Rugby Union Women's Championship.
Both have previously been teammates as part of the Group 10 representative team and in 2018 were part of first ever Australian Police Rugby Union side.
The Bathurst duo are part of the starting side, with Archer lining up at lock and Shoulders in the front row.
Bathurst were the only station in the country side to have more than one person selected in the team.
Other Western region players selected in the country team are Hayley Joseph (Dubbo), Maggie Townsend (Forbes) and Bianca Wright (Parkes).
The match will take place on April 22 at either Camden or Cabramatta.
