THE proposed new road laws to cut road carnage - reducing the blood alcohol limit to 0.02, expanding 30 kilometre an hour zones, reducing 100km/h speed limits, removal of mobile speed camera warnings, etc - are draconian.

They will penalise the ordinary driver who just likes a glass of wine with his meal.
They will not stop the speed demons, or the idiots who drive three, four or five times over the blood alcohol limit, under the influence of drugs, drive unlicensed and unregistered, but will penalise every other driver.
This will have no effect on road safety, but will be a huge increase in revenue raising.
I believe this was never about road safety but just an excuse to raise revenue.
