Held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, Ruby won bronze in both the 11-year-old 50 metres fly and 100 metres buttery and came fourth in the 50 metre backstroke.

She was also a finalist in four other events, while also picking up new personal best times for her 50 metre fly and backstroke swims.

It was Harry's first Country Championships and he qualified for four different events.

He won bronze in the 10-year-old and under 100 metres backstroke and was a finalist in the 100 metres fly, dropping a huge 3.5 seconds in both of these races.

The hard work has been worthwhile for the siblings, who spent all the summer holidays and Christmas break training lengthy hours away from home, as well as participating in many sessions at Bathurst preperaring for the NSW Country Championships.

While the Thornes might live in Bathurst, they actually train with the Coonamble Swim Club, where their father's family are from. When in Coonamble, they're trained by Robert Andriske.

When they're swimming in Bathurst, they are coached by Raewyn Simons.

The siblings will now continue their hard training for the upcoming school championships, the two both attending Scots All Saints College.

The siblings, along with a very small squad from Coonamble, both left a huge mark at the championships, with the five swimmers from the squad coming away with a grand total of 15 medals.

Rural swimming clubs from all over NSW featured at the championships, including Tamworth, Armidale, Batemans Bay, Lismore and even the Bathurst Swim Club.

Bathurst Swim Club coach Josh Stapley described the championships as "the most successful weekend the club has had in recent memory, if not ever, at the event".

Bathurst enjoyed a triple treat of medalists at the state event courtesy of Oliver Hamer (100 metres breastroke silver), Paddy O'Hara and Jason Cao (both 100 metres breaststroke bronze).

Hamer was a standout performer for the Bathurst team as he finished with five top 10 results during a busy program.

On top of the medals, the Bathurst team also returned home with many new personal bests.
