Thorburn's debut EP, 'Lost My Mind,' is set for release this Friday, and he said it has been something he's always wanted to do.
"I wrote my first song a few years ago and it gained some traction on Triple J Unearthed, but I'm really only making music for my own satisfaction," he said.
"I'm excited for the release and regardless of how it's received, I'll simply be happy to get it out there."
Thorburn describes his sound as heartfelt and full of emotion, with a range of different influences thrown into the mix.
"Whenever I'm asked to describe my music, it's quite hard to answer as the sound takes inspiration from a range of sources," he said.
"There's bits of rock, indie, reggae and pop, and the songs are founded in whatever I was feeling at the time I wrote each one."
While Thorburn no longer lives in Bathurst, he said his time in the community has had a profound impact on his life.
"I've made so many great friends in Bathurst who have helped me find the confidence to forward my music career," he said.
Thorburn has his own musician page on Facebook.
