Amidst the global outbreak of COVID-19, more commonly referred to as coronavirus, Bathurstians have quickly snapped us as many sanitiser products and face masks that they can get their hands on.
On Wednesday afternoon, John Matthews and Co pharmacist Marcus Heiner said his store had been fairly well cleaned of all its sanitiser products, except for a bundle of chlorhexidine bottles, a strong sanitiser that is common in hospitals.
And while many people are finding the need to stock up on cleaning products amid the panic related to coronavirus, Mr Heiner said it's not recommended to stock up on the items.
"If you're worried, just ask your pharmacist or doctor and they can run through what you can do," he said.
"It's recommended not to stock up on cleaning products because it's not going to be a risk.
"We've had huge amounts of people buying sanitisers or face masks, so if you did want to get them today, you couldn't but we are getting more in."
As of March 3, there was more than 93,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 7.8 percent classified as serious.
Eighty countries have been affected, with major outbreaks in central China, South Korea, Italy and Iran.
By Wednesday afternoon, the cases of coronavirus in Australia had risen to 42, which included a doctor and a nursing home worker.
Mr Heiner said people with prescriptions for drugs from China or other neighbouring countries do not have to be worried.
"One person came in the other day with a product from Vietnam worried that it might have coronavirus," he said.
"It should be fine. The virus would not be able to survive more than day in the packet.
"When people do ask how they can prevent getting coronavirus, we recommend washing your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.
"It's likely that it will spread to Bathurst, so be prepared but there's only so much you can do."
Other pharmacies in Bathurst, such as Moodie's Pharmacy, have also seen a surge in sales for sanitiser products and face masks.
The likes of Woolworths and Coles in Bathurst have also seen a massive demand in toilet paper.
