Macquarie University announced on Tuesday it has suspended all on campus classes and move to on-line learning, while the University of Wollongong announced a two week recess from March 23, to enable staff to transition courses to remote delivery.
Students from Charles Sturt University received an update email on Tuesday afternoon, saying the university is continuing to monitor the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation and its potential spread and is following advice and recommendations from Australian federal and state health authorities.
Students were advised that "at this stage" all on campus classes are going ahead, although the university is looking at alternative options, including moving classes to online.
"We are prepared to close a campus at any stage if directed to do so by the Australian health authorities or if a situation emerges that we deem to be a high risk. As an experienced provider of online learning, we will enable our students to switch to online study for the current session if face-to-face learning is not recommended in the future," the email said.
Students were also advised of changes to all upcoming residential schools, which will either be delivered online, postponed or cancelled.
Students were told that anyone who has paid for travel and accommodation will be reimbursed.
"Charles Sturt will refund all out-of-pocket travel costs associated with these changes. All on campus accommodation will be automatically cancelled and students who booked will not be charged for the accommodation.
"We encourage you to first seek refunds or credits through your travel providers, such as airlines, train and bus services, or accommodation providers. If you are unable to get a refund or travel from the travel providers, you can request a reimbursement from your travel from Charles Sturt University," the email stated.
