The coronavirus outbreak brought the season to an early end last week, but thanks to St Pat's Old Boys Blue's major semi-final win over City Colts they were declared the winners for 2019-20.

But one thing both those teams will be able to agree upon is this: At least the last game of the season turned out to be a thriller.

Jack Goodsell (38) and Bill Hall (36 not out) fought hard in the face of a strong Colts attack, led by Paul Clancy (4-31), as the Saints made their way to 6-138 from a reduced 38 overs.

But the Saints attack fired back even stronger through the likes of Saqib Amin (3-38), Goodsell (2-28) and Nathan Maxwell (1-20), stopping Colts six runs short of their total.

Cameron Plummer (55) fought on while everyone else fell by wayside but his half century wasn't enough.

Pat's captain Jeremy Russell said his side rose to the occasion.

"That was nice and close, that game. The pressure was definitely on but that's what you play finals cricket for. It was great to get a decent hit out like that.

"We've got two teams in this grade and it just goes to show the strength at the club. The other team only just missed out on finals after a washout."

Colts would have lined up against Bathurst City in the preliminary final last weekend for the right to face Pat's in the decider.

Redbacks earned their place in that game thanks to a thrilling win of their own - a one wicket success against ORC where Dene Rice (19 not out) and Kane Bowman (17 not out) put on 28 runs for the last wicket.

Meanwhile, in Bathurst cricket's other grades, Centennials Bulls successfully defended their President's Cup crown and minor premiers Rugby Union won the third grade title after their major semi-final against Perthville was washed out.
