As a senior doctor at Westpoint and Kelso practices, we, like most practices, have had trouble sourcing enough hand sanitiser for the practices.
When I saw in the Western Advocate the article about Ian Glen of Stone Pine Distillery (April 1) using his distillery to make hand sanitiser out of gin and sorbitol, I immediately contacted him to see if he had some available.
I went and picked up a large container for us to decant into the separate hand sanitiser containers for each surgery.
When I asked how much we owed, Ian refused to take money, saying that it was his bit for the community.

We are so grateful for this.
A lovely lady called Ann Seve, who has spent her life caring for those in need, has made protective gowns for the doctors and nurses to wear when seeing those patients who need to come to the surgery.
It is wonderful to see how these two people and many others rally around to help others. Thank you so much.
If anything good comes out of this pandemic, it will be the care and humanity shown to each other.
