Karla Jade Bowman, 22, of Emerald Drive, Kelso, was sentenced by magistrate Catherine Follent in Bathurst Local Court after she was convicted of mid-range PCA.

Her solicitor Fiona Sams told the court, in submissions made via email, that the night before Bowman was arrested, she went to the pub with her friends.

Ms Sams said in the early hours of the next morning, a friend offered Bowman some home brew, which she drank, and then she waited until the afternoon to drive.

Ms Sams said it appears the unknown content of the home brew was the problem for the defendant.

Ms Sams asked the court to take into consideration the fact her client was stopped for a random breath test, not her manner of driving.

Ms Sams said she sought the minimum disqualification together with compulsory interlock order, asking the disqualification period to be back-dated to the date of suspension.

The court also heard that Bowman, who works as a receptionist, attended the Traffic Offenders Program and was highly remorseful for her conduct.

Police facts handed to the court outlined how Bowman was stopped in William Street at 2.40pm on March 7.

Bowman was in the driver's seat and there were three men in the vehicle, police said.

A random breath test returned a positive result and Bowman was arrested and recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.106 at Bathurst Police Station.

When questioned about her consumption of alcohol, Bowman said she had her first drink at 7pm on March 6, 2020 and her last at 7am the next morning, according to the police facts.

She said she was drinking vodka and Red Bull, but could not indicate how many she had consumed.

Bowman was convicted and fined $700 and disqualified from driving for three months.

The court also made a 12-month interlock order.
