The NewAccess telehealth program, developed by Beyond Blue, offers free mental health support via telephone or video for people who may be feeling overwhelmed or anxious about day-to-day life.
Marathon Health NewAccess coach Bill Murray, who is one of six coaches based in Western NSW, said the program offers residents professional mental health advice while maintaining social distancing.
"There is no referral from a GP needed for this program, which allows people ease of access," Mr Murray said.
"The program involves six sessions that are tailored to the individual, and the coaching is grounded in cognitive behavioural therapy, which recognises the impact of our thoughts and actions on our overall mood."
With social distancing a tough but necessary measure to combat the spread of COVID-19, Mr Murray said longer periods in isolation can cause people to dwell deep on their thoughts and circumstances.
"People are social animals by nature so in these uncertain times, it's important to stay connected with family and friends and to maintain an active mind," he said.
"It's important to recognise these issues early to save them from compounding over time."
Mr Murray said there's plenty of times available at present for people to discuss their feelings and concerns.
"If we can help sort these issues out early, it saves the need for further treatment," he said.
"We've found the results we're getting through electronic coaching are as promising as face-to-face consultation."
According to Marathon Health, local NewAccess services have a recovery rate of more than 80 per cent, almost 10 per cent higher than the national average.
