GOVERNMENT help for renters may have come just in time for tenants in Bathurst with new data showing the city has among the highest median asking rents in the region.

The Bathurst local government area might be the second most expensive place to rent a home in the Central West, but prices have remained stable for the past year.
The median cost of renting a house is $360 a week, the Domain Rental Report for the March 2020 quarter shows.
Data reveals that prices have, however, increased by $30 (9.1 per cent) a week when compared to five years ago.
The report also shows that Orange's median rental cost is the most expensive at $380 a week. This is up 1.3 per cent on 12 months ago, and 16.9 per cent when compared to five years ago.
While in Dubbo the median cost is $350, which represents a 2.9 per cent increase on 12 months ago, and a 6.1 per cent jump compared to five years ago.

When comparing the median price of renting a unit in the three LGAs, Bathurst has the cheapest at $260 a week.
This is stable when compared to a year ago, and just $20 more (up 8.3 per cent) on the median price tenants were paying five years ago.
Orange has the most expensive prices at $275 a week, while in Dubbo it drops to $268.
Other towns in the Central West are much cheaper by comparison, including Parkes where people looking to rent a home will pay a median of $320 a week.
In Lithgow the price drops to $300, in Forbes the median cost is $290 and in Cowra it is $263.
On Monday, NSW Better Regulation Minister Kevin Anderson said many residential tenants had been significantly impacted by the coronavirus.
He said renters would have greater protection from eviction as the NSW Government puts $440 million towards rent relief in the form of land tax waivers or rebates, however the move has been slammed by the Labor opposition.
