And it is not just a pair of Supercars rounds that are being considered for Mount Panorama, but a possible combining of the season finale with the 2021 Bathurst 12 Hour event.
With the coronavirus pandemic putting the current Supercars season on hold until at least June's Winton 400 and possibly beyond, it could force a calendar reshuffle.
Supercars chief executive officer Sean Seamer revealed on Supercars Sidetracked that the joint Bathurst event is a possibility if the season pushes into 2021.
"It's absolutely on the cards and under consideration at the moment," Seamer said.
"It's an event that we promote and it is an opportunity for us to capitalise on that. It won't be another 1000, we'll have to think of something different like a sprint format.
"But there is an opportunity for us to go there and to potentially finish the season there in New South Wales.
"We know we'll be important to New South Wales if we can't do it [the season finale] at Newcastle."
The Australian Racing Group has already been forced to combine two Bathurst events in the wake of the coronavirus.
The Bathurst 6 Hour was unable to go ahead in its Easter time slot and rather than completely cancel the event, they announced it would be combined with the Bathurst International.
The Bathurst International will be staged in November, giving organisers time to work out the logistics.
Supercars has plenty of logistical work to do when it comes to its own events. The initial date set for the season-ending Newcastle 500 is December 4-6.
The Bathurst 12 Hour date for 2021 is yet to be confirmed, but is expected to run the first week of February. It is currently staged over four days and while it is for GT machinery, many Supercars stars have joined the grid.
While Seamer says "Everything is on the table" and that "If we need to extend the season then absolutely we will do that", he previously stated his intention is to leave the Bathurst 1000 in its October 8-11 slot.
"Bathurst will obviously proceed on its scheduled date. We have a plan for how we can make that happen," Seamer said.
Six-time Bathurst 1000 winner and now Supercars commentator Mark Skaife said it is important the Great Race remains in October.
"I would argue that it's important to keep our current Bathurst in the same timeslot if we can get away with it with crowd," he said.
