The next market was originally scheduled for this Saturday, a week earlier than normal due to Anzac Day falling on next Saturday.
But the monthly event will remain on hold until further notice, with Farmers' Market chair Paul Haysom citing the health and wellbeing of staff, stallholders and customers as the main priority.
"We don't want to put anyone in danger, so we're waiting for more advice on the COVID-19 situation until we decide when to bring the market back," Mr Haysom said.
"A lot of older Lions Club members regularly help out at the market so until the situation improves, we're following the direction of Bathurst Regional Council and health experts to maintain social distancing."
However, Mr Haysom is quietly confident the market could return as early as May or June.
"I think Australia has done a great job to flatten the curve so far but, of course, we have to abide by local legislation and the wishes of the Bathurst Showground Trust, who we rent the space from," he said.
"With that said, larger farmers' markets in Canberra and the Gold Coast have been allowed to stay open, and the federal government considers them an 'essential service'."
Last week, the Orange Farmers Market was cancelled, with a stop-and-go collection point set up as an alternative.
Mr Haysom said the Lions Club of Bathurst is promoting the businesses of regular stallholders online to ensure members of the community can still buy local produce.
"Our stallholders are wonderful to deal with, and we want to help get their products out to customers in any way we can," he said.
"Many of these stallholders have already been doing it tough with the drought, so we hope the event can resume in the near future."
"Although there hasn't been a new COVID-19 case in Bathurst for two weeks, we will not start until it's safe to do so."
