Perthville history: Perthville - 1872-2017: Mary MacKillop's First New South Wales School, written by Dr Marie Crowley, traces the history of the early school, the college and St Joseph's House. Bathurst Library: Join researcher Diana Sillato online on Thursday, April 30 from 6pm to explore the critical role of Malta during the Gallipoli campaign and the hospital base established in Malta known as the "Nurse of the Mediterranean". Hear about more than 70 Anzacs from Bathurst and the Central West who were treated in the hospitals in Malta and sent letters home. Arts OutWest is offering micro-grants to help individuals and organisations in the local arts community during the COVID-19 crisis. The Family Planning NSW webinars are tailored for parents and carers and take a whole-of-community approach. The webinars will start from the end of April. Bathurst Remembers: Anzac Day was very different in Bathurst this year, but filmmaker Bruce Ryan is encouraging locals to have a look at the YouTube feature Bathurst Remembers Anzac 100 Years to see footage of commemorations past.
Festival Time: Bathurst Writers' and Readers' Festival organisers are planning to run a number of events online. All the events that were to be streamed from the Sydney Writers' Festival, however, have been cancelled. The festival will feature:
- Festival opening at 5.50pm on Friday, May 1.
- 'Books you might have missed' at 6pm on Friday, May 1. Jen Barry and Cade Turner-Mann will chat through some of their favourite titles of the year.
- Storytime with Bathurst Library at 10am on Saturday, May 2. The session will be hosted by staff from the library.
- Multicultural Storytelling Project at 11am on Saturday, May 2. The session will be hosted by Jock Cheetham.
- Poetry Pickings at 2pm on Saturday, May 2. Local poets will be sharing some of their works.
- Creative Conversation at 6pm on Saturday, May 2. Kate Smith will chat with Bathurst author Tracey Sorensen.
- Great Festival Read at 11am on Sunday, May 3. A panel will discuss The Yield by Tara June Winch.
- Live Words at 1.30pm on Sunday, May 3. A local playwriting group Live Words will present their recent projects.
