When Piccolo's on William was forced to close back in March, it was lucky enough that it could move its coffee and cakes trade next door to Pear Tree Wholefoods.

But it's whole dine-in had to close and it won't be re-opening on Friday when coronavirus restrictions are eased, allowing up to 10 socially-distanced customers inside a cafe or restaurant at one time.
Owner Maggie de Vries, who also owns Pear Tree Wholefoods, said takeaway was never an option for Piccolo's when restrictions were brought in back in March.
"We're a sit-in. We're not a takeaway and we're not set up for it at all, so it was never an option," she said.
"The 10 customers is just not worth it. Even with our outdoor area, if we could have another 10 out there, it's still not worth it.
"I heard a really good metaphor to explain the situation. It's like running the Indian Pacific all the way from Sydney to Perth, all the carriages on but only allowing 10 people onto one carriage. All the costs are the same."
While Piccolo's isn't open, Ms de Vries said she's fortunate that she doesn't have to pay rent.
"With it not being open, we're lucky to be in a centre that isn't charging rent," she said.
"So there's no trade and no rent, which is very fortunate that is the case."
She said Piccolo's regular customers have been extremely supportive during the coronavirus restrictions.
"They've really helped. We wouldn't be here without them," she said.
"I can see most places staying open out of loyalty to their customers, to keep them with their coffee. That's why you do it.
"We've got a lot of takeaway food [in Pear Tree] now, which certainly helps the cause. We're trying to be positive."
With Piccolo's being closed, Ms de Vries said it's a perfect time to change up the cafe and change its direction.
"We're completely changing Piccolo's. When it re-opens, it's not going to be the same shop," she said.
"We're going up market and we're putting all new fancy equipment in.
"We've got a new chef coming.
"It's all different things that are going to have to change and be different.
