Calare MP and Minister for Decentralisation and Regional Education, Andrew Gee, said the funding will allow Bathurst Council to continue enhancing local roads and improve driving conditions and safety.

Mr Gee said the funding in the Bathurst Regional Council area will allow progression of a number of high-priority projects, using local knowledge to deliver the best local roads

"With more deaths on country roads than anywhere else in Australia, its vital that we continue to invest in our community safety, " Mr Gee said.

The projects being funded include: Bathurst Street, Perthville where the section of road between Prince and Apsley streets will be reconstructed and sealed, at a cost of $289,557.

A one-kilometre stretch of Hen and Chicken Lane has recently been sealed, widened and realigned with the works costing $136,591.

Houses Lane, a rural lane way, will be reconstructed and widened, at a cost of $174,085.

Mr Gee said also ensuring roadworks such as these can continue under social distancing measures is crucial to keeping the economy moving during the coronavirus pandemic and the recovery.

"Continuing these important projects means keeping more local people in jobs and more money flowing through local businesses," Mr Gee said.

Visiting the completed works along Hen and Chicken Lane, near Perthville, Councillor Warren Aubin said the funding was being put to great use.

"This (Hen and Chicken Lane) is one project council could not afford to do on its own. It's great to have the funds on board, and this project goes really well with our other road projects," he said.

Simon Armitage, from council's engineering department, said eventually council'a plan is to have the entire Hen and Chicken Lane sealed.

Mr Armitage said Hen and Chicken Lane was used by motorists when the Vale Road floods, as well as a detour from the Vale Road en-route to Blayney.

The Roads to Recovery program will deliver more than $212.7 million this quarter to 425 local governments across Australia for safer and better-maintained roads.

Mr Gee said the Liberal National Government has committed an additional $100 million per year to the Roads to Recovery Program from 2019-20, as part of the Local and State Government Road Safety Package announced in the 2019-20 Budget.
