BATHURST Library staff did their best to deliver an energetic and engaging experience for children for National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) on Wednesday.

The library joined with over one million other participants in reading Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas, a picture book written and illustrated by Lucinda Gifford.
The story is about chooks Whitney and Britney and what they get up to at night.
The COVID-19 restrictions meant there couldn't be an audience in the library for the NSS session, so instead staff did a live stream on Facebook.
Programs team leader Victoria Murray said it was certainly a different experience.
"Performing without an audience can be tricky as we rely so much on our interactions with the kids and even the parents," she said.
"It's a different kind of engagement that we have tried to make as personal as we can by giving shoutouts to those we know are tuning in and making the event fun for both us and all the people at home."
Staff were very happy with how the session went and the level of engagement so far.
"We already have 150 views of the video and one of the best parts about doing these kind of events virtually on Facebook is that people can go to our page and watch the video whenever they like," Ms Murray said.
People who participated were eligible for prizes and will be contacted via Facebook if they won.
Ms Murray said that people who enjoyed this format of storytelling can join in similar sessions during the school term on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10.30am.
