Emergency services were called to a home on Cheviot Drive following reports that a vehicle was on fire outside a home.
Fire and Rescue NSW Bathurst Station Officer Sandy Collins said the car was well alight upon the arrival of firefighters.
"The car received damage to the engine compartment and it had some exterior damage," he said.
"It would have been a write-off."
Station Officer Collins said firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the car and there was no damage to the home or nearby property.
"The residents were alerted to it [the fire] by their barking dog," he said.
Police were also called to the scene and the fire is now under investigation.
In a separate incident, firefighters were also called to another car fire about 30 minutes earlier.
The call out was received at 12.42am to a Ford Focus that was on fire in Walmer Park off Bradwardine Road.
"The car was fully involved in fire," Station Officer Collins said.
"The magnesium that was in the wheels of the fire was reacting with the water [from firefighters' hoses] and was spitting out bits of fire."
This car was totally destroyed and police are also investigating this incident.
