A soldier killed in action 75 years ago will be the focus of the first Last Post Ceremony to be held since the coronavirus forced the Australian War Memorial to shut its doors in March.

The daily live format of the Last Post Ceremony will restart on July 1, the day the memorial reopens to visitors.
The ceremony will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the amphibious landings of the Australian 7th Division at Balikpapan in New Guinea during the Second World War.
It will honour Private Leslie James Hanlon of the 2/27th Australian Infantry Battalion who was killed during Operation Oboe Two.
Australian War Memorial director Matt Anderson urged people to book a free ticket online if they wished to attend.
"The Last Post Ceremony is an important part of the memorial visitor experience and a powerful and memorable way to conclude a visit," he said.
"It draws us closer to the lives and the loss of but one of the 102,800 names recorded on the Roll of Honour. It is a chance to take stock in our busy lives, and to wrap ourselves in a unifying cloak of remembrance."
Pre-recorded Last Post Ceremonies have been posted online during the shutdown and will continue until the reopening.
