Due to the threat of COVID-19, visitation has been restricted in hospitals, particularly on the maternity ward, to protect patients.
But even though they can't have as many people around as they may like, midwife Melissa Waterford has found mothers are doing well under the circumstances.
"One change women did experience was a limit of one support person with them during their admission," she said.
"Normally the majority of women would have no more than two people with them during labour and birth.
"Mothers have said they found the fewer visitors after birth relaxing as they have time to recover and bond with their baby, foster attachment and establish breastfeeding."

They are getting plenty of support from the midwives, who are trained to give them all the help they need.
When mother's go home, that support can continue.
"Although things have changed, the mothers who have given birth during the COVID-19 pandemic have received more education and support from clinical staff due to the implementation of virtual education and support," Ms Waterford said.
"... We have support programs for women who choose to go home from hospital soon after birth."
While the idea of giving birth during a pandemic could alarm some women, they needn't worry about coming to the hospital.
Data shows that, if a mother had COVID-19, the transmission to the baby is unlikely with correct respiratory and hand hygiene practices.
On top of that, midwives at Bathurst Hospital strive to make the environment as comforting as possible.
"It is a calm and relaxing environment for the women to birth in and be supported to breastfeed," Ms Waterford said. "The reduction in visitors in the first few days allows for the women to become comfortable establishing breastfeeding and have all the personal care required in a timely manner."
