Golding and co-driver Newman entry qualified in 20th place for the two hour challenge but didn't stay there long as they began climbing steadily up the ranks.
The pair, who are housemates, stayed clear of the drama and at one stage were right in the mix for the lead until unfortunate timing on a safety car took them out of the winning mix.
Golding and Newman dropped out of the top 10 in the final green flag session but fought back to finish a commendable 10th position, enough to land Golding seventh place overall in the series.
The series was taken out by Jaden Ransley, who teamed up with Andre Heimgartner to finish fourth in the Bathurst event.
"We got a bit unlucky with a safety car towards the end of it. We were on pace for a podium result but that's racing, I guess," Newman said.
"Our strategy was to have fresh tyres and a good run to the end. I was actually pitting that lap that the safety car, so poor timing by about half a lap but it is what it is."
Newman said it's been a surreal experience to see simulated racing being thrust into the spotlight.
"With iRacing you get to race against all the big guys quite often in these sort of events. I really enjoy it," he said.
"We obviously can't go to the real tracks with those being shutdown at the moment so a lot of the boys have really enjoyed this. I've done competitive sim racing on and off for seven years and I find it quite strange to see it all over the media now."
Wildcard entrants Josh Files and Cooper Webster emerged on top at the end of Thursday night's two hour challenge, edging out the GRM entry of Dylan O'Keeffe and Jackson Souslin Harlow.
A mid-race safety car shook up the order, leaving Brett Holdsworth leading from Will Brown, Souslin Harlow, and Webster
Webster quickly dispatched Souslin Harlow at the restart and eventually worked his way into the lead
The order remained the same until a second safety car set up an 18-minute dash to the flag.
Webster and Souslin Harlow got away from the chasing pack and traded the lead on multiple occasions.
At Hell Corner on the final lap Webster got by Souslin Harlow and immediately built a buffer, doing just enough to secure victory.
Cooper was stoked that his dive down the inside paid off.
"It was half-and-half planned," he said of his move on the last lap.
"I thought I'd have to pass there otherwise it would be too late. As soon as I got close to him I knew that I was going to go for it. I was a bit worried in the hard braking area just because you can so easily overshoot it.
"I got that run down into turn one and pulled out as late as I could so he wouldn't expect it and it turned out good. There was a tap ... but overall it was pretty good."
