The six-year-old bay mare has previously been trained by Bob Milligan, Andy Perrett and Krissie Simpkins, before arriving at Wanda Ings' stable at Bathurst in recent times.

She'll get her first test under the training of Ings this Sunday at Dubbo, drawing barrier 12 in the McDonalds Dubbo and Wellington Benchmark 58 Handicap (1310 metres).

In fact it's Magic Arli's first start since November last year, with the team at Ings' stables working hard to help the mare overcome some bad habits.

"We took it quiet with her at first because she was really difficult," Ings said.

"She came to us because she had lots of naughty idiosyncrasies, but she settled down really well.

"We didn't put up with any of her nonsense but at the same time, we didn't harass her either. She's really turned the corner.

"I don't know enough about her to suggest she'd win the race but her work has been absolutely perfect."

Magic Arli has had 34 starts in her career, her most recent one coming at Grafton on the North Coast.

All up she's had three wins, her last coming at Coffs Harbour in March, 2019.

Adrian Layt will be in the saddle for the mare, while Ings' daughter Chelsea Ings remains unavailable after her fall at Hawkesbury last month.

"Adrian is going to ride her and his instructions are to have her where she's comfortable and see if she can finish off," she said.

"If she runs out of petrol, he won't knock her about.

"She's first up and she hasn't trialled, but she's done a lot of work and lot's of good serious work, so we couldn't be any more happier with her going into this race."

While Ings has only had Magic Arli for a short while, she's been impressed with her work.

"I've had her for about six to eight weeks now, but I really love the mare," she said.

"She's turned the corner and she's not indicating she's going to do anything bad, like she's previously done.

"It's funny with mares, I find that when they're happy they run out of their skin.

"They'll run huge races and she's really happy right now. She's not being a nut or a nasty thing."

Dean Mirfin is another Bathurst trainer that has nominated chances for the race, with Oybusta in race one, Jeteye in race six and New Zealand gelding Genghis Khan in race 10.

Magic Arli will feature in the ninth race - which will feature 12 starters - at Dubbo on Sunday, in what will be a 10-race meeting.

The first is at 11.15am, with Magic Arli's race getting underway at 3.55pm.
