Last week, the state government revealed Bathurst was the home of the first cyber security centre in regional NSW.
The centre immediately brought eight jobs to the city and that number will double in the next 12 months.
Those workers will be responsible for daily proactive monitoring to detect vulnerabilities in online systems and will also be able to help respond if there is a major cyber attack.
Cr Bourke was thrilled that Bathurst was chosen.
"Firstly, this here is about more jobs for Bathurst; it's only eight jobs now, but it doubles later on," he said.
"This is bringing the future to Bathurst. This is putting Bathurst on the map."

Member for Bathurst Paul Toole and the Minister for Community Services, Victor Dominello, have been working together on bringing the centre to the region for months.
Cr Bourke said he pleased to see how much a former mayor had fought to get the centre in Bathurst, as it has ensured the city is part of the state's future.
"I know there's a lot to do as mayor, but this makes me feel good, on a day like today where technology and the future is being talked about, because that is jobs in the future and it's recognition of our Spatial Services," he said.
"They're still here and we're still growing that workforce.
"I'm really pleased and excited that the Minister Victor Dominello has worked hard with our local member Paul Toole to make sure Bathurst is a part of this future of NSW."
