ONE week after their return motorkhana event the Bathurst Light Car Club kept their activities coming over the weekend with the running of the Visual Navigation Series' opening round.

Following the successful return to the dirt a week earlier the club got themselves back onto the tarmac for a social event which can be described as orienteering by car.
Using instructions and maps drivers make their way across the countryside looking for specific markers that, when found, provide a keyword for them to complete a larger puzzle.
The easygoing event, with no time restriction, was a fun way for members to unwind after their more competitive return at the John Windsor Motor Park.
Bathurst Light Car Club president Mick Tuckey said the event is a great way for members to enjoy an outing on the region's roads.
"We had 16 starters and it ran over about 160 kilometres," he said.
"It's a social outing. You run with a route chart like a normal rally but at certain points you have to answers questions that might be something like what colour a letterbox is or an item that might be in the paddock.
"What that does is it then fits into one big crossword puzzle. If you get all the answers right you get full points."
The event is a great way for learners to rack up hours on their path towards a provisional licence.
Tuckey said the social events, often run by club maintenance officer Tony Hanrahan, have been a popular one for club members.
"Tony's been running these for a while. We probably run around four of them throughout the year," he said.
"We used to run them on Friday nights but we've turned it into a full day event. It's a great family outing and gives people a chance to take their old cars out."
More competitive racing at the club isn't too far away, assuming coronavirus measures don't change in the coming months.
Tuckey said exciting times are on the horizon for the club.
"The khanacross will be our next event [on July 26] then hopefully, if the COVID-19 restrictions stay at their current level, we'll be able to have the flying fifth, which will be a big event on the 12th of September," Tuckey said.
"Then we've got the Esses hill climb to come on the 13th of September to get a nice double event weekend out of it."
