It comes as sport resumes this weekend including junior and senior football.

School-aged children are also still discouraged from visiting patients in hospital during the holidays.

WNSW Public Health Network CEO Andrew Harvey said people could not afford to be complacent.

"While the easing of crowd restrictions in NSW means families can enjoy themselves during the holidays, we still wholeheartedly encourage everyone to continue to practice safe social-distancing, proper hand washing and hygiene and to remember to use their elbow or a tissue for coughs and sneezes," he said.

"I also cannot overstate the importance of being tested for any respiratory complaints.

"If anyone is suffering from cold or flu-like symptoms, I urge them to take the time to get tested at one of our region's Respiratory Clinics, or to call their regular GP or local hospital for advice on how to get tested and, of course, stay at home when you're unwell.

"It really is up to each individual to ensure that our region continues to be COVID-safe."

Sport resumes with tight restrictions on organisers to reduce the chances of coronavirus transmission.

Crowds of no more than 500 people, including officials, players and spectators are allowed.

Only one parent/carer per player should attend junior sport, the number of fields being used should be limited and players should be encouraged to leave once their game was over.

Orange and District Football Association president Tony Mileto said they would have a gala day for juniors while senior players would start their competition on the weekend.

"We want to give the kids an opportunity to play leading into the school holidays to get a bit of fitness before they go back full-time," he said.

Mr Mileto said it was also a chance to put COVID-19 measures in place and check how they went.

He said they were also seeking clarity about complying with the 500-person limit at the one venue.
