A group of tourists arrived shortly after the doors opened at 11am and according museum manager Samantha Friend they had been waiting to visit for a number of days.
"They had been waiting and checking each day to see if it was open and they were excited that it was finally open," she said.
Ms Friend, who is also the president of the Bathurst Historical Society, said there are a number of measures in place to make sure the museum is following coronavirus protocols.
"The carpet has been cleaned and there's been a thorough clean of all surfaces," she said.
"There's been a lot of staff training, going over procedures, dos and don'ts and we've put up signs asking people not to touch things.
"We've also closed our toilets at the moment because we can't keep up with the cleaning.

"The upstairs Bushranger Room has been closed too, which is especially disappointing for the kids but we had no choice.
"We're just excited to be open and to have visitors back in after three months of being closed."
The museum will be open from 11am to 2pm on Wednesdays and Fridays for further notice and it's unlikely it'll go back to normal hours until the New Year.
"We don't know what's going to happen, especially with Victoria," Ms Friend said.
"We've been safe here and Sydney is okay but we have aging volunteers and we want to look after them."
Tickets are currently $5 for adults, $3 for concession and $12 for a family.
The museum has been in its current building next to the Bathurst Court House since the 1980s, after moving from 1 George Street near the Macquarie River.
The Bathurst Historical Society was originally founded back in 1947 and has run a museum for the majority of its history.
The museum will be open to 10 visitors at one time.
