Macquarie travel to play Millthorpe Tigers where they have a strong chance to make it two from two to start the season, following a thrilling 2-1 breakthrough success against CSU in round one.

The match looked destined to head for 1-all draw until Macquarie found the go-ahead goal with 30 seconds remaining.

Coach Andrew Speed said the result was a major boon for a young side looking to leave their mark on the competition.

"CSU were very strong but our girls defended well and our goalkeeper was outstanding. We just took our chances when we had them," he said.

"They scored from a set piece and we got a very late goal. It was a really strong first grade game. They equalised with around 10 minutes to go but we got in front with virtually the last kick of the game."

Millthorpe didn't have a great time in their opening round venture to Bathurst as they went down 5-0 to Eglinton.

Speed isn't paying attention to that result, believing that Millthorpe can be a different beast when playing on their home turf.

"Millthorpe are always difficult at home," he said.

"At home it's a bit easier for all the players to get there and they tend to have a good squad. We tend to have good, close games with them.

"They're a young team in there's much in it. It could be very interesting."

In the other result from round one Abercrombie FC pushed forward their case to be considered early title favourites with a 2-0 victory over Panorama FC.

The men's matches were a mixed bag of close contests and high scoring affairs.

AFC Navy brought down PFC Black 4-2 after the Goats provided a late scare, AFC Gold and PFC Red finished all square at 1-all while Collegians marked their return to first grade with an emphatic 5-0 win away to Lithgow Workmens.
