IT had not been the return Don and Andrew Ryan had hoped for with their mare Happiest after a year away in the paddock but in start number three she made an exceptional turnaround.

The Bathurst trainers watched on in delight as Happiest ($14, Eleanor Webster-Hawes) blew the field away in the Claudia Leighton Birthday Wish F&M Benchmark 58 Handicap (1,100 metres) to score a long awaited second career win.
Happiest had returned to the track with seventh and tenth place finishes at Class 1 level but the Ryans ventured into the BM58 race confident she could take down her higher-rated rivals.
The Ryan runner didn't have the easiest of journeys to the winning post and she showed a lot of heart to put her opponents away.
Jockey Eleanor Webster-Hawes pushed the mare hard three wide in the opening 200 metres to get her into the lead, though once she got there Happiest settled into stride well.
And the signs were positive for Happiest as she moved into the home straight because Webster-Hawes looked still as a statue on the mare.
As her rivals brought out the whip she kept hers away until the 200m post when several quick taps took the mare to another level.
Happiest left her rivals battling away for second as she made two wins from as many starts at Cowra, bolting home by four and a half lengths.
Fellow Bathurst-based runner Miss Hugo A Gogo, trained by Gayna Williams ($5.50, Nick Heywood), stormed home through traffic in the run for home but finished a head away from All About Me ($21, Michael Heagney).
Wanda Ings had favourite Missile Miss in the running but the six-year-old failed to fire in the run to the line. The Smart Missile mare ran home 11th.
The other Bathurst-trained runner at the Cowra meeting was Ashlee Grives' Eye Will in the Class 2 Handicap (1,375m).
Matt Dale's favourite Fling ($1.75) was far too classy for the field, winning by almost four lengths ahead of I Am Grande ($4.20).
The rest of the field were 10 lengths away from the runner-up, with Eye Will running fifth.
