SHANE Sanderson rarely makes ventures over the Blue Mountains from his Menangle stable but he's eyeing off Bathurst Paceway as the perfect venue for Loorrim Creek to make his return to racing this Wednesday.

Former Group 3 champion Loorrim Creek was sent for a brief one month spell after a tough couple of races at home, and with a bit of quality rest time it's hoped the Rock N Roll Heaven seven-year-old can regain some of his trademark consistency.
Loorrim Creek starts widest in the night's top-graded event, the Town And Country Rural Supplies Pace (1,730 metres), in just his second start at Bathurst for current trainer Sanderson.
Ventures outside of Menangle, Newcastle and Penrith are rare for Loorrim Creek but this race shaped up as the perfect return event for Sanderson's highly-graded gelding.
"Every now and then it's good to give them a break from Menangle because the high speed racing can be quite hard on them. I've taken him to Newcastle a couple of times in the past to give him a break from them going 150 every week," he said.
"He's had a bit of a break and this looked like a nice race for him. It's a good one to give him a bit of a run around.
"I think the race is winnable for him but given where he is in his preparation he's going to have to be driven somewhat for luck. If this race is run to suit I'm sure he'll be forward enough to capitalise.
"If the breaks don't come then he might be up against it."
Loorrim Creek's only previous venture to Bathurst since joining Sanderson's stable in early 2018 was a runner-up finish at big odds during the Bathurst Mayors Cup in March this year.
On that occasion one of Steve Turnbull's stable stars, Atomic Red, was a cut above the rest of the field.
But several runners who finished behind Loorrim Creek on that night, such as Life Lavros and Power Of Red, are also taking part in this Wednesday's race.
Whether Loorrim Creek can stay ahead of them comes down to both how quickly he can get up to pace in his first up run and if the race presents the right opportunities for driver Cameron Hart.
"If he takes a liking to the Bathurst track we might have to come more often, though it's not something we want to be doing all the time, especially in the middle of winter," Sanderson laughed.
"We'll see how we goes. I'm sure he'll make a good account of himself.
"His best attribute is his consistency. He was a little bit inconsistent last time in so we freshened him up and he appears to be quite well."
Several horses have strong claims in Wednesday's event
Barry Lew's Dazzle Me gets the inside start and comes into the race with back-to-back runner-up finishes.
The horse who beat him in the latest of those races, Smooth Sailor, looks to continue his nice run of form for Bernie Hewitt.
Ashlee Grives' Life Lavros raced boldly behind strong company for a third placing last start and could also feature.
