A report to Wednesday night's council meeting recommends lifting the price of rehoming a cat - including microchipping, first vaccination, worming and desexing - from $145 to $170.
The report to councillors says the cost of adopting a cat from the pound had previously been subsidised by the Catwise program but the subsidy is no longer available.

"Staff at the pound have delivered excellent results in the rehoming of both dogs and cats in recent years and a key strategy to that success has been in keeping the price of the animals as low as possible," the report states.
Council has negotiated with Stewart Street Veterinary Clinic for a discounted fee for desexing, which would usually cost more than $200.
"The proposed increase is very reasonable and represents the 'at cost' delivery of the services provided by the veterinary practice," the report states.
