Game one: Keith Pender and Nev Kable had a hard fought win over Dick Graham and Kevin Howard. Kable got off to a strong start, leading 10-2 after ends. Howard then mounted a comeback, closing the score to three before Kable then won four ends to lead comfortably 18-7 after 14 ends. Over the closing third of the match, Howard scored 11 shots to eventually go down by only one, 20-19.
Game two: Jim Clark and Peter Zylstra were never headed in their match aginst Terry James and Tim Pickstone. Scores were even through the first six ends, but four shots on the next end gave Zylstra an 8-3 lead. Leading 14-10, Zylstra scored seven shots over two ends to put them in a commanding position after 17 ends, and they kept the pressure on to win 24-16.
Game three: Another close game between Tom Beck, Des Sanders and Alan Clark against Peter Ryan, Terry Chifley and Gordon Death took part on rink seven. Death were the stronger team through 18 ends, leading by as many as nine at end nine. Clark then began their fightback, levelling the scores at end 19, and scoring three shots on the final end to win a close match 18-16.
Game four: An even closer match was underway between Ron Hogan, Ian Warren and Ron McGarry against Chris Woodyatt, Mick Burke and John Bosson. Scores were level at eight all after eight ends, and level again at both 13 and 18 ends. After an even contest to the final end, McGarry finally took the honours 22-21.
Saturday Bowls
Game one: After losing the first end, Ted Parker and Max Elms were too strong for Ron Hogan and John Crocker. After trailing 1-11 after seven ends, Crocker fought back to within three shots at the end of 11. Elms then secured the victory by winning the next seven ends and in the end, ran out comfortable victors 28-14.
Game two: Chris Woodyatt, Tony Press and Alan Clark had a comfortable win over Des Sanders, Ron McGarry and David Josh, leading from beginning to end. Despite a slow start, Josh was well and truly in the game after 15 ends, only trailing by three. Clark then won the next three ends to have a solid lead and eventually score an eight shot victory, 20-12.
Game three: Despite losing the first five ends, Ray Minogue, Kerry Connors and Mick McDonald were took strong for Mick Cooke, Tiger Smith and Peter Naylor. Naylor shot out to a 6-0 lead before McDonald got on the board, but McDonald won eight of the next 10 ends, inclidung a six which gave them a 9 shot lead at end 16. Honours were shared over the final ends, but McDonald won the match 22-13.
Game four: Noel Whitney was lead swinger in the match with Terry Clark and Glen Urza against Ken Hartwig and Rhys Harvey. Urza lost the first end, but from that point, took control of the game, scoring 14 shots to three after seven ends. Harvey won five of the next six ends to get back in the match but Urza took control over the final third to take the victory 29-12.
Minor Singles Championships: Five matches were played in the minor singles. In Round one, Hugh Brennan had a victory 31-19 over Garth Robinson, who performed well in his first championship game. Terry James also performed very well in his match against Trevor Sharpham taking the win 32-18.
Three matches were played on Sunday in round two. Terry James backed up against Ron McGarry in a game that went to 38 ends, and resulted in a close win to McGarry 31-28. Greg Quartley-Scott also had a hard fought win over Peter Zylstra 31-23, and in the final match, High Brennan overcame a determined Kevin Howard 31-22.
The semi-final will be played Saturday with Hugh Brennan playing Greg Quarterly-Scott and Ron McGarry taking on Scott Chapman. The final will be played on Sunday.
Entries are now being taken for the Minor Pairs (Closes this Saturday 25 July) and the Club Triples, which closes on the 15 August. Forms are on the Notice Board.
Mixed social bowls will again be on at 1pm Sunday. Please call the club on 6331 5459 by 12.30 to put your name down.
BATHURST CITY
Phil Gray made it two in a row winning the 2020 A Singles final against a valiant John Archer. Jumping out to a 9-2 start, Phil then had to withstand a determined Archer who fought back to trail 9-10 . A run of five ends in a row saw Archer take the lead 18-16 before Gray regained his rhythm to win 10 of the last 13 ends to claim a 31-26 victory.
There were no fishing stories when two old mates did battle in the B Singles final. Jack Smith dominated early leading Denis Oxley 15-2 before Oxley claimed six out of seven ends to assert his authority with a 24-16 lead. Oxley's stranglehold continued running out a 31-18 victor.
The 2020 A and B Pairs begins this Saturday with all teams down to play.

Members are reminded that voting for our committee begins this week. Our returning officer will be at the club between 4pm and 5pm on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday to accept voting from all financial members. Results will be announced at the AGM on August 1 beginning at 11:00am.
Wednesday Social Results
Game one: A four on the 14th end after scores were locked up at 11 all was the impetus for Geoff Thorne and John Archer to run out 20-13 winners over John Finlay and Alby Homer.
Game two: Garry Hotham, Bob Heffernan and Ian Shaw made the most of a 13-1 start to record a 23-16 win against Ross James, Pat Duff and John Martin.
Game three: With scores locked up at five-all, eight-all, 12-all and 14-all Ian Schofield, Joe Young and Robert Thompson finished strongly to score a 22-14 victory over Norm Hayes, Ron Cambey and Phil Murray.
Game four: Denis Oxley, Ian Cunningham and Bob Foster, with help from Ron Hollebone, put the pedal down after being eight-all after six ends against Shorty Noonan, Mick Simmons and Susie Simmons to run out 27-14 victors.
Saturday Social Results
Game one: Alby Homer, Nev Townsend and Ian Shaw were always in control against Geoff Thorne, Paul Reece and Ron Hollebone winning 20-14. Reports of team disharmony were later rejected by the runners-up.
Game two: Ron Cambey and Barry McPherson trailed until the 13th end against Dennis Harvey and Daryl Geale. A game changing six and then a four earned Cambey and McPherson a 20-14 victory.
Game three: After scores were all tied up at eight-all after 10 ends Susie and Mick Simmons finished the stronger to earn a 17-13 victory over Ian Schofield and John Fulton.
Game four: Bobby Bourke and Mick Forde made their return to the green against Alex Birkens and Bruce Rich. A mayoral drive scored a five and turned the game with the Bourke and Forde combination scoring a 22-13 win.
Game five: Ray Fitzalan and Arch Ledger were always in control against Shorty Noonan and Paul Rodenhuis before the latter scored a seven on the 16th end. A run of four consecutive ends by Shorty and Paul was not enough with Ray and Arch winning 18-16.
Game six: Norm Hayes and Anthony Morrissey held off a late surge from Mick Sewell and Arthur Williams to win 20-16.
