Lasseter Shannon had other ideas.

Peter Bullock's $51 shot, driven by Kimberley Grant, flew home down the outside to edge out The Donny ($6.50, Nathan Hurst) in the TAB Odds and Evens Pace (2,260 metres).

Grant knew she'd got the job done, turning towards the club to cheer in excitement as Lasseter Shannon got home by a half head.

Lasseter Shannon had to do plenty of work to make it happen.

Sitting last along the pegs along the back straight, his job got much harder when Rintin began to tire badly in front of him, forcing Grant to pull him outside to catch up to the pack.

Once he got there he was still full of running.

Bullock was completely taken by surprise.

"You like those when they come. We obviously weren't confident going in. We were just hoping we could pick up a prizemoney cheque somewhere and work home at the finish," he said.

"When he had to work around that tiring horse I thought 'Well he's passed one, if he can pass another he'll pick up a little bit of money'. I was thinking he could work home for third or fourth.

"I was actually watching the other horse [Skedaddle Shannon] which was leading at that stage but it was a very pleasant surprise, and for Kimbereley who drives him he's virtually her pet. She does everything with him."

Victory saw Bullock go home with two wins after Olivia Shannon ($2.40 favourite, Amy Rees) was successful in The Knickerbocker Hotel 3YO Pace (1,730m), beating Sharp Shooter ($3.60, Nathan Hurst) in a duel.

"She's probably one of those horses who every time she goes out you think she's going to win but she hasn't been doing it. She cops more bad luck than anyone else but this time it went to plan," Bullock said.
