The NSW Resources Regulator approved the exploration activity last month, but Krakatoa Resources is yet to commence works in the Lachlan Fold Belt near Hill End.
Krakatoa's executive chair Colin Locke said the availability of drilling rigs and wet weather had delayed plans.
"Some time this quarter they'll start drilling," he said.
"It'll be great when it [a gold mine] happens ... it'll be a job creator."
The approved exploration activity will include nine diamond drill holes to explore for minerals with a rehabilitation security deposit of $10,000 held by the government department.
Krakatoa is already drilling for gold and copper reserves at its Belgravia site which is located 35 kilometres north of Cadia gold mine near Orange.
